It’s hard to know how seriously to take U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump’s threats — but some seem more realistic than others.
While he’s unlikely to annex or invade Canada anytime soon (we hope) his love for tariffs is well documented.
The threat to lob some of them at Canada, then, feels a bit more tangible.
It was with that in mind that Canada’s 13 premiers got together with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this week. The group settled on a unified approach to push back on Trump’s threats — well, at least most of them did.
At the bottom of the statement read a note: “The Government of Alberta did not approve the joint statement between the Government of Canada and the Council of the Federation.”
Ouch.
Couple that with Smith’s recent trip to Mar-A-Lago — where she posed for pictures alongside Trump, Ameri-curious Canadian businessman Kevin O’Leary and incel whisperer Jordan Peterson — and suddenly Ontario Premier Doug Ford sounds almost reasonable.
Here’s the latest on Canada’s plans to take on Trump.
