Canada’s most prominent Muslim advocacy organization is demanding Prime Minister Mark Carney apologize after comments he made during an interview with Christiane Amanpour for CNN.
While discussing Gaza and the possibility of a two-state solution, Carney called for a “Zionist, if you will, Palestinian state.”
The comment, the National Council of Canadian Muslims said, was “insulting” and “devoid of context” of a “Israeli government that has not only refused to recognize Palestine, but has continued to illegally occupy more and more Palestinian land as it carries out a genocide against Palestinians.”
Now they say Carney must “retract his comments, apologize, and affirm the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.”
But this isn’t the only moment Carney has made some concerning comments about Middle East politics.
He’s made some concerning remarks about Iran, a topic friend-of-the-show Paris Marx broke down incredibly well in this great new piece:
That’s why today, we’re talking about it all.
