When I heard "Zionist" Palestinian state, my first thought was that Carney was having a stroke. The utter absurdity of this, and the cynicism behind this comment is breathtaking. He goes on to talk about the necessity to ensure Israeli security. Based on the current genocide, I would say Palestinian security might be a bigger priority. It would be great if a journalist had asked him what political faction in Israel is open to a Palestinian state.

What political faction in Palestine was open to Israel existing as a state?

Hamas is open to it and would accept the 1967 borders.

Either way, the only way peace happens is a single secular, democratic state.

I just emailed the PM's office - apparently he likes to hear from Canadians. I left out "what the fuck are you talking about, Dr. Carney?" but I did urge him to STOP with the Zionist stuff, lose the tired and irrelevant talking points, and to recognize Palestine as its own state. Never, ever under the vicious occupation of Israel as an apartheid, colonial state. I didn't think that he needed to know that Zionism is a political ideology because surely he already knows that, but I reminded him anyway. The genocide that is being livestreamed before our eyes needs to be called out once and for all. By Canada! I am so disappointed in you Dr. Carney!!!!!!!!

The easiest way for a conservative to get elected, is to run as a liberal.

And it's clear that while we have known him to be a neoliberal economist, he is also a neoconservative imperialist.

The two-state rhetoric has never been so weak as right now.

Dude's the most eloquent, highly educated PM in decades. I guess that's possible, but a reach.

Also, Amanpour is one of the most engaging, critical, not unhinged, and non-threatening global journalists out there.

I lived in the Middle East for 18 years and visited the West Bank city of Ramallah in 2011.

I think the of October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel was an act of terrorism and I think the Israeli response has been disproportionate and criminal.

I think the inaction of the world community, including Canada, with respect to the genocide in Gaza is deplorable and inexcusable.

I watched the entire Amanpour / Carney interview and I think the PM navigated the conversation well with the exception of the zionism reference, which was unfortunate. I believe it was a case of mis-speaking - one I'm sure he regrets.

I recall Justin Trudeau declared that he is a Zionist...I hope it is just ignorance. They shouldn't be using these terms if they don't fully appreciate the historical meanings and the controversies that will be created by statements like this.
