I’m frustrated today.
Canadians like physician Yipeng Ge travelled to Egypt in an attempt to March to Gaza (not into Gaza, to be clear).
The odds weren’t great that they’d make it to the Rafah crossing, where they hoped to increase pressure on Israel to allow the trucks of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, where civilians are starving to death due to Israel’s ongoing siege.
Despite the small chance of success, the marchers still tried. That matters.
Or at least, it should — but according to some folks with the largest platforms in Canadian media, these marchers needed to be dressed down.
One Globe and Mail columnist suggested the protesters suffered from “a precise medley of arrogance, ignorance and hubris.” A National Post columnist recounted in a mocking headline that these marchers “beg(ged) their 'genocidal' government for rescue.”
It was gross. It’s also not where the ridiculous coverage ends. So I did something none of these columnists appear to have done: I spoke to Yipeng, one of the marchers, about all this today.
Here’s what he told me.
