Scared, confused and overwhelmed about the U.S. bombing Iran? I got you

I did an extended interview with an expert, researched and put together a nice little explainer for you.

When U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Saturday night, you could almost hear the entire world’s sharp intake of breath.

He announced that the U.S. had bombed nuclear enrichment facilities in Iran, a sovereign country.

He claimed it was a massive success. However, like many of Trump’s claims, the truth of that is unclear. If anything, the evidence suggests this wasn’t a success at all — if the mitigation of the nuclear threat from Iran was the goal.

This whole situation has left a lot of folks confused, overwhelmed, or even afraid. So I spent the last few days researching, reading and interviewing experts on Iran.

Now I’ve got a video for you that’ll dig into three key questions:

  • What’s the deal with Iran’s nuclear programme, and did the U.S. attack actually accomplish anything?

  • Why do experts think this might have happened, and what do they think Israel or the U.S. might have been thinking? (spoiler: at least one of them probably wasn’t really thinking about anything but ego. I’ll let you guess which)

  • What could happen next?

I’d like to give a special thank you to Dr. Bessma Momani, a professor of political science at the University of Waterloo, who I peppered with a million questions earlier today for this piece.

Alright. Let’s dive in!
