U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs are, to hear Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tell it, a bid to weaken the Canadian economy to make us easier to annex.
That’s, um, disconcerting.
But Trudeau’s comment isn’t the only unnerving bit of commentary to emerge from this trade war.
Following a phone call with Trudeau on Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social to attack the Canadian leader. His post ended with an absolutely unhinged claim:
“He was unable to tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what’s going on here? I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power. Good luck Justin!” Trump wrote.
This is absurd in so many ways. It’s also part of an emerging pattern from Trump.
Let’s talk about it.
