Canada Day just happened.
But as folks celebrate outside of Parliament Hill, a man was just elected to its House of Commons who trivialized residential schools. On top of that, Bill C-5 just became law, despite vehement opposition from many Indigenous leaders.
So this week, we’re talking about the colonialism that Canada was built on, and how its legacies are still hurting many Indigenous people and communities in more ways than you might realize.
This might be a tough one for some folks to listen to, so feel free to skip this one if that’s the case for you. We’ll be here next time.
But for those of you who are sticking around, I’ve got a phenomenal guest on the show today: Pam Palmater!
She's Mi’kmaw lawyer, professor, author, speaker, & podcaster from Eel River Bar First Nation. Her voice is incisive, her mind is whip smart and she doesn’t suffer any BS.
I hope you enjoy the episode!
