Active members of the Canadian Armed Forces were just hit with terrorism-related charges for “intending to forcibly take possession of land in the Quebec City area” and planning to create an anti-government militia.
These men “took part in military-style training, as well as shooting, ambush, survival and navigation exercises. They also conducted a scouting operation,” an RCMP press release read.
It goes on to say that “a variety of firearms, some prohibited, as well as high-capacity magazines and tactical equipment were allegedly used in these activities.”
The press release doesn’t tell us anything about the nature of their anti-government ideology. But this isn’t happening in a vacuum.
It’s happening in the context of a much broader, concerning trend of offline, anti-government extremist organizing.
I did some digging, spoke with experts, and learned more than we can glean from the RCMP press release.
I also found what appears to be the accused’s social media — and in this video, I’ll tell you what those profiles showed.
