Let's talk about tariffs and...yeah, that CTV stuff | election campaign day 11

Feeling really grateful for each and every one of you.

Wow — what a 24 hours.

Before tucking into my usual election coverage, I wanted to take a second to thank you all.

I was terrified that no one would care about what CTV did, that there would be no lesson for them to have more courage when this inevitably happens to another journalist.

But you did care. You made sure CTV heard that loud and clear.

I genuinely think this could change things — hopefully, this will teach them the difference between real outrage and bad-faith outrage, which means they’ll stop doing the bidding of bad actors trying to silence journalists like me.

We’ll see.

But today, I have hope that we can make the world a bit better. That’s because of you.

So thank you. ❤️

Speaking of the world, this was a chaotic 24 hours!

Since my last update, two more Conservative candidates got the boot. Mark Carney paused his campaign to deal with the tariffs. Poilievre laid out a plan to respond to Trump’s tariffs.

As I’m writing this, Trump has also just finished announcing his tariffs. The degree to which they’ll impact Canada is unclear — it sounds like we’re exempted from the 10 per cent overall tariffs, but not the auto, steel and aluminum tariffs.

Hopefully we’ll have a clearer picture by tomorrow’s update. Until then, here’s where we’re at.
