I just got laid off. So here's what's next.

On Friday, I got laid off from my investigative journalism job. Quite the Christmas present, eh?

Sadly, my employer made the decision to axe its entire editorial arm — and I know it’s not one they made lightly. But the end result is that I have about two months until I can’t pay my rent.

Here’s the thing: this could be the running jump I needed. I’ve always wanted to launch a proper independent news operation. One that isn’t beholden to shareholder profits or the whims of overpaid executives.
