I finally heard back from government departments about some provisions that have people worried in the government’s massive new border bill, Bill C-2.
There’s just one hitch: their response got key information wrong, which suggests the government might not be aware of what’s in their own Bill.
I’ve got the receipts to prove it.
Not only did the email they sent me seem to suggest they think a warrant is still required for law enforcement to access subscriber data from service providers (under Bill C-2, it wouldn’t be), but they also didn’t directly answer my question about the new powers the bill gives to Canada Post.
All this has me wondering: is the government moving at an unsustainable pace with this legislation?
I also finally heard back from Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand’s office in response to my questions about Israel’s likely-illegal interception of the Madleen, the boat carrying humanitarian aid (and Greta Thunberg).
I found their response frustrating, to say the least. I’ll share that with you as well.
