What just happened in South Korea??

Korean protesters just showed the world how to respond to populist leaders trying to attack democracy.

Koreans who went to sleep before 10:30pm likely slept through their president declaring martial law, citizens protesting, and the entire thing being overturned.

Whew.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol wasn’t able to get away with what looked an awful lot like an attempted coup — and it was only because of people and lawmakers who fully understood what was at stake.

At a time when right-wing populism and anti-establishment sentiment are growing like weeds around the world, we can probably learn some lessons from the way South Korea batted down this attack on its democracy.
