People are freaking out about the "unelected" prime minister. They shouldn't!

Yes, Mark Carney doesn't hold a seat in Parliament. No, that's not some dangerous nefarious thing.

A lot of people finally got what they wanted so, so badly: earlier this year, Justin Trudeau announced his plans to resign.

But then they saw Mark Carney elected Liberal leader — and our new prime minister — and suddenly started yelling “no! no! not like that!”

See, now that one boogeyman is out of the way, some people who thrive off of fear mongering and clickbait need to manufacture another. For some of them, they’ve settled on their next source of horror: the fact that Mark Carney is about to be an “unelected” prime minister.

Unfortunately for them, this is, actually, very normal. In fact, it’s not even the first time it’s happened. Oh, and reporting suggests Carney will likely call an election shortly after he’s sworn in anyways, so his mandate will get a gut-check from the broader public very soon.

But boring realities of parliamentary process aren’t sexy and spooky.

So here we are, again, with another fact check.
