A lot of people like to tell themselves Russia is behind our disinformation and division problem.
But I have bad news: Russia just exploits the cracks we create ourselves.
That’s what I told the Parliamentary Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa today, where I had been invited to testify as part of their study on Russian influence and disinformation.
It was off to a great start. But an alarm suddenly rang out when Vatnik Soup creator Pekka Kallioniemi started speaking. The meeting was abruptly stopped as we were told we had to evacuate the building.
Lots of members of Parliament — of all political stripes — starting joking that it must have been “Russia” behind the interruption.
Between asking around and eavesdropping, I learned there was apparently a suspicious package found on the Hill. City News later reported that the package was eventually “deemed unsuspicious,” according to officials.
Personally, I prefer to think I spit so much fire during my testimony that it set the alarm off.
You can be the judge. Watch my testimony now.
