The Poilievre people in Canada are literally copying everything from the MAGA playbook where cruelty is the point. They cant even resist the temptation when it is one of their own. Are we going to see MAGA taking over the party and driving away the traditional conservatives, just like what has happened to the republican party?
I think the party will turn on PeePee with even more retribution if his numbers sink when Carney takes over as Lib leader. Most of them feel handcuffed or are forced to push out Jenni Brynes hateful stuff.
this is interesting honestly. With rabid attempts at purging more moderate party figures via Twitter, the parallels between the CPC’s development and Trumpism are hard to deny. But not sure if PP is the definitive face for it like Trump has been. Feels less charismatic or technocratic and more like a blank slate sort of politician, which feels like a flimsier package for this sort of baseless, hateful rhetoric.
It’s nice to imagine him folding immediately at legitimate gloves-off opposition, either from without (would love to see if Carney can do this), or from within.
Well she is certainly a good representation of the vileness in PP’s party. Being a decent adult is beyond the current ‘conservatives’. Take note … if this is their behaviour campaigning, if they get elected - Canada will be ushered back to the ‘50’s to an era none of them experienced.
I cringed when you added that tone when reading the written message. That aside, you're 100% right. The state of politics is frustratingly partisan. I know I'm guilty of getting pulled into choosing between black and white when the picture is varying shades of grey, but I don't know the solution. We can't continue to take the high road when the fight is always in the gutter (just look how "When they go low, we go high" went for American democrats), but to cave to our base instincts and join them when it violates our principles.
