it would be cheaper to put people in housing than in jail but that's a bridge too far for the Cons. Ugh

So Poilievre's solution to homelessness is to put homeless people in jail...I am surprised he didn't suggesting disappearing people to El Salvador, which may be cheaper than a jail in Canada

Rachel previously reported that the chairman of the flight company hired by the Trump admin to fly people to El Salvador was sitting on the board of ROM. He has since stepped down from the board of ROM.

Thanks Rachel Gilmore and thank you. I would like to know what ties exist between the business man who bought the massive Stephenville airport built by US servicemen in World War II has to the consortium currently illegally flying hundreds of shackled Venezualans picked by ICE agents without ANY due process to rot in a barbaric massive hell hole in El Salvador. As human beings of conscience work hard all over the great United States of America to non violently remove the most

most brutal, authoritarian focused, corrupt, criminally dangerous, immoral, inept, narcissistic, sadistic regime to be elected in centuries, how can we in Canada protect ourselves from DOGE North and ensure every Canadian realizes the threat poses to Peace, Order and Good Government by our home grown Christian Nationalists, MAGAs, NeoNazis and DOGE lovers in the Conservative party of Canada. These are the people who scream about transgender women 24/7, the virtues of plastic bags and are anti vacc.

I think it would be reallllly nice if this "DOGE for Canada and here's how we should do it" audio had half the media legs as the BS "button gate" story. Yeah, expect crickets on this along with the fact that the IDU Axis exists

While I agree with the previous 2 posters that it is ridiculous to toss the homeless in jail, at least they would be getting 3 square meals, a roof, and if needed, medical attention. It would be much better to put them in small houses or other fixed accomodation, which would give them an address which might allow them to look for a job because strangely enough, companies like to hire people with actual addresses instead of 3rd tent from the right, such and such a park.

In Victoria, BC they had a pilot project that was successful using tiny homes built out of shipping containers giving each person a lockable personal space and shared washroom facilities. It was used as transitional housing, with supports to gain employment, and 35 of the residents (which was most of them, a few were kicked out) found permanent homes. It has since been reopened temporarily but the province is trying to find a permanent spot for what's been dubbed "Tiny Town." However, minimal insulation is needed in Victoria compared to everywhere else in Canada. The design would have to be adjusted if duplicated elsewhere.

There was also a prefabricated building development for supportive housing that went up extremely fast compared to regular builds. So quick housing options exist.

The 2023 point in time count in Victoria, BC was 1,665. The prison in Victoria houses 300 inmates. Where exactly does Poilievre plan to put the homeless people he has arrested under his plan?

Goodness ... and it sounded like the PP plan was to build homes for those without so they can 'bring home big paycheques' when he 'axed the tax'? If life was actually a slogan we would all be 'singing in the rain' - no ... that's actually a song. An entitled simpleton is PP - 'bring it home' !!

Addressing the needs of those living in tents is a massive challenge and speaks to forty-five years of non stop neoliberal attacks on relationships, the commons and the common good. The core neoliberal idea is that we humans are all selfish independent rational individuals. We are not. We are complex social beings. Human babies require enormous amounts of attention and love to thrive.

People working flat out do not have the energy and time needed plus Western Science has only “ discovered” this in the 1990s and the pivotal Adverse Childhood Experiences ( ACE) study is ignored . I like most well intentioned people in my age group snd my parents age group was unaware of how vitally important it is to mirror with a baby and lots of other crucial information. The whole 10 dollar a day day care crowd shows that the data on the ACE study and the extraordinary work of Dr.Gabor Maté and others is ignored at our collective peril.

From the only First Nation Elder I was fortunate enough to meet in person and spend time with and from all my reading, First Nations, Metis and Inuit societies understood the needs of babies and small children and emphasized living within seven generations and extended family interconnections and relationships and found ways for people to connect.

The horrific reality that abuse , cruelty and domination have been tolerated by all kinds of individuals , families, communities, institutions , religions for millennia and the practice of shaming the victims/ losers and glorifying the winners who take all is baked into our cultures.

We force our young people to read dystopian novels in high school and we glorify dystopian narratives in books, fashion, TV series, movies and video ganes or we disnify the stories. I do need to watch the newer Disney movies to see if these have changed. I could not watch the movies beloved of my sons although I tried. I could not watch and listen to the Joker or Game of Thrones. Recently neuroscientists are starting to develop tests for imagination and my score is off the charts. So I automatically feel how I would feel in any scenario I watch , which is why I cannot watch . It seems that other people lack imagination and so they can compartmentalize and believe all the lies told by members of the GOP, Erroll and Elon Musk etc. The fact that we humans co-create together the societies we live in known by the ancient aboriginal peoples who survived and thrived until they were almost wiped out by linear thinking colonial imperialists . We need new versions of ancient regenerative stories.
