IMHO, Smith's lowering of the bar for referenda is a strategy of "if we don't get the support we want the first time then we do it again, and again, and again until we finally catch them not paying attention or so frustrated they stay home or give us a chance."
This was the strategy Harper used to gain his majority.
Danielle Smith will do anything to distract attention from the investigations into her healthcare dumpster fire corruption, her blatant dismantling and privatization of our healthcare system, the wholesale free-for-all giveaway of our protected lands, waters, and mountains for oil, gas, and coal companies, and the last remaining habitat of the caribou in northern Alberta to Weyerhaeuser- a US company. Oh, and we have the worst measles outbreak in decades but she doesn't believe in vaccines, so... she needs to distract from the fact that she won't call it an emergency and her staff keep quitting so they can write op-eds in big daily newspapers to warn the public that measles is a deadly, horrible, preventable disease that kills kids and the vaccine does NOT cause fucking autism. JFC.

Now we et to spend millions of dollars on a question that will end in ALBERTA CAN'T SEPRATE THE WAY YOU THINK, IDIOTS! WE DON'T OWN THE LAND, THE OIL, GAS, MINERALS, ANY NATURAL RESOURCES, THE WATER, NOTHING!
If we had a real premier, who cared about the people of Alberta, that premier would explain all of this clearly, instead of encouraging this pointless, divisive, expensive waste of time, energy, and resources. This is only hurting all of us, all of Canada, at a time when we need to be pulling together.

In 58 years, I've never been asked if I want to separate from Alberta. I don't know anyone who has been asked (I've asked). So I sincerely doubt the 1 in 4. I doubt they would want to if they understood the facts.
But we won't be getting facts from Marlena, who prefers to be called Danielle, Smith. (It's apparently ok that she gets to pick her preferred form of address.)
