I finally heard back from our government after a week and a half of asking them to respond to the words of a Canadian doctor who has been on the ground in Gaza.
And unfortunately, what they had to say was beyond disappointing —particularly when you put it in the context of what is happening right now, and couple it with the knowledge that the government has the power to do something about it.
Yipeng Ge sent me the following message for the Canadian government:
“To the Canadian government - the time to end your complicity in Israel’s crimes was yesterday,” it read.
“Today, do what is necessary and within your power to end Israel’s crimes. Sanctions. End free trade. End arms trade - full two way arms embargo. Anything less is ongoing complicity and active involvement in allowing Israel to commit genocide.”
I sent this statement to Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand on July 14. Today, I finally received her office’s reply — on top a reply from Global Affairs Canada yesterday.
What they had to say was, according to Yipeng, “incredibly insulting and disappointing.”
Meanwhile, this morning, an open letter was released from more than 100 humanitarian aid organizations. They warned the world that their colleagues in Gaza are starving alongside the civilians as a result of Israel’s siege.
L’Agence France Presse issued a similar warning just days prior.
“Without immeidate intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die,” the AFP statement warned.
“Since AFP was founded in August 1944, some of our journalists were killed in conflict, others were wounded or made prisoner, but there is no record of us ever having had to watch our colleagues starving to death.”
In today’s video, we’ll discuss it all.
