Was voting for the budget a mistake? (feat. Elizabeth May)

Bubble Pop with Rachel Gilmore | Season 2, Episode 10

Today’s guest has been at the heart of some of the most integral moments of Canadian politics in recent weeks — and has the metaphorical scars to prove it.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May was the lone opposition MP who voted to support Mark Carney’s government in a recent budget vote.

She agreed to do so only after Carney had affirmed Canada’s commitment to meeting its Paris Agreement climate targets.

A little over a week later, Mark Carney signed a memorandum of understanding with Alberta that clawed back several Trudeau-era climate policies and paved a pathway for a potential pipeline.

This left May telling reporters that Carney “needs to consider what his word means when his word was given.”

All of this has left me dying to have a conversation with the green party leader — and luckily, she has obliged me.

I’m very excited to welcome Green Party Leader Elizabeth May on today’s show.
