Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has a message for the journalists who aren’t regularly failing fact checks but do actually hold him accountable.
To him, they’re “Liberal media,” a “small cabal of government-approved mouthpieces.”
That’s what he told Candice Malcolm, co-founder of True North (and the wife of a Shopify executive…) in a recent exclusive one-on-one sit down.
We know what kind of permissive environment his anti-media rhetoric can create.
U.S. President Donald Trump, who has long been engaged in the same kind of attacks on journalists as Poilievre, just turned that talk into action.
He has banned Associated Press reporters from the Oval Office and Air Force One indefinitely over their refusal to use the term “Gulf of America” in reporting for their international audiences.
This is the thing about politicians like Poilievre and Trump, who attack any media daring to ask tough questions while giving preferential access to simps and bootlickers: they don’t care about “independent media” or fair access.
They care about rewarding media who kiss their ass while trying to destroy the reputations of any journalists who hold them accountable.
That’s an attack on press freedom.
Let’s talk about it.
