It’s been…a tough couple of weeks. Armed thugs are gunning down protesters in broad daylight on American streets, and the administration has been lying to the public to defend those executions.
It’s raised a lot of questions for me, as both a Canadian trying to avoid our country’s tendency of emulating what the U.S. does, and as a human being trying to understand how people can do such evil things to each other.
So when I saw Dr. Yannick Veilleux-Lepage’s post on Bluesky, it struck a chord.
He asked, “How do seemingly ordinary people become agents of state murder?” He then posted a whole thread of various great thinkers, academics and more who have grappled with that very question.
It’s one that I want to grapple with now, too — so I asked Yannick to join me on the show to help me do it.
Dr. Yannick Veilleux-Lepage is a professor at the Royal Military College of Canada. He’s an expert of tech, far-right extremism and terrorism tactics.
And I am really hoping he can help us make sense of these utterly senseless times — or at least, we can talk about it all.
