FACT CHECK: No, the 'legacy media' did not admit the news industry has Mark Carney's back

Do the Conservative MPs spreading these lies think their supporters are stupid?

What’s that? A bunch of Conservative elected politicians are blatantly lying to Canadians and treating them like they’re too stupid to figure it out?

Right. It’s time for a fact check.

You might have seen this clip going around. It shows two men, standing on a stage, and one makes a pronouncement:

“Prime minister, know that every person in this room and the 180,000 people who work in this industry have your back — just as we know that you have ours.”

To hear several Conservative MPs and right-wing influencers tell it, the “we” in question is the mainstream media. This statement, they claim, is the firm proof of what they’ve always suspected: the legacy media loves the Liberals!!1!1!

Except that’s not true.

The man speaking is the President and CEO of the Canadian Media Producers Association. His group represents the other, non-news kind of media, like scripted TV and movies.

In fact, the convention where he made this statement is the same one where Mark Carney had his cuddly moment with Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams.

Naturally, this is catnip for folks willing to present information in bad faith because they think their audience is too stupid to do even the tiniest bit of research if something appeals to their biases.

In today’s video, I’m fact checking these viral misleading claims.
